Local golfers will be interested to learn that the Batavia Golf Club has been once more resuscitated. This club was first formed in 1872 with a membership of 16, including C.C. Balfour, a brother of A. J. Balfour, the Unionist leader. The original licence or document granting permission to certain people—Messrs H. Gray and T. C. Wilson—to play the “Schotsche Golf Spel” is still in the possession of the club and the game was then played over Koningsplein. After a time the club died out but was revived in August 1894 at a meeting at the house of the British Consul called by Mr K.A. Stevens. Again it died out but on Jan. 23 a meeting was held in the B.C.C. and the club was again revived, this time the ground being at Bukit Doerie, Meester Cornelis. The membership is 52 and the ground was laid out in ten days, a nine hole course being laid. The greens will stand improvement but the Links give a very sporting game and the distance is about 2,500 yards. There is fortunately a good train service quite near the ground. The following was the result of the first competition and with the other information kindly supplied to us by Mr B. Ucler.
