Book of Hours - Hor(a)e B.M.V. secundu(m) usum Romanum. (At end:) Paris, Simon Vostre, 30th June 1507.

Large metalcut device of Vostre on title, metalcut of the anatomical man, 16 fullpage cuts; each page within splendid metalcut borders, many in the dotted manner. Rubricated in red & blue. 104 lvs. (A-N8), 26 lines. Mod. calf, gilt & gauffered edges, 8vo 4000/6000 = Cf. Bohatta 836 (102 lvs.: A-18, K4, L-N8). Not in Lacombe, Fairfax Murray, Harvard French. Rare and well-preserved Book of Hours.

The fine border cuts depict biblical- and daily life-scenes (hunting, games & pastimes, musicians, etc.) and includes a fine dance-of-death series (60 men & women & 39 repeats, with capitions in French).

The Calender is for 1507-'27.

Title & 7 of the large cuts in old handcolouring, 2 touched by colour, tear in A8 roughly rep., some short tears, old entry on title erased, few small stains & slight foxing in places.

Waarschijnlijk wordt hier een soort 'hockey' gespeeld. Duidelijk is te zien dat het bezit van de bal door de spelers wordt betwist. In het tijdvak 1885-heden is een gekleurde hedendaagse versie opgenomen.
