Joos de Momper II, South wall of the Winter Room at Rosenborg castle. 1610-1620

Oil on oak; one horizontal joint on the back. 50 x 65 cm. Niet gesigneerd; niet gedateerd. Vervaardigd in Antwerpen in opdracht van Christiaan IV (koning van Denemarken en Noorwegen).
c. 1617-1620 according to Wadum 1992; Rosenborg castle was rebuilt and extended from 1613 until 1615. The decoration of the Winter Room was according to J. Wadum altered during a second rebuilding (1616-1620). According to him the seventy-five panels, that decorate the walls, form part of a huge assignment which was hastely executed in Antwerp augmented by previously painted panels which were still in stock in various workshops. This would explain the dating of 1613 on one of the panels (Wadum 1988, p. 87). According to Ertz 1986 the painting is to be dated c. 1610
