Jan van de Cappelle, A River Scene with two Colf Players in Winter. 1653
A River Scene with two Colf Players in Winter, 1653. Jan van de Cappelle, Dutch, 1626-1679
Even though he was not a professional artist, Jan van de Cappelle was an outstanding painter of marine scenes. His oeuvre also includes some twenty winter scenes that reveal the influence of, among others, Hendrick Avercamp. However, Van de Cappelle’s works have lower horizons and are more austere in character. A River Scene in Winter shows two figures playing colf.
