A ball and a golf- or hurley stick. Magnus MacOrristin Grave Slab at Clonca, Ireland, fifteenth century (?). Fergvs mak Allan do rini in clach (Fergus Mac Allan made this stone), 6,0" x 1'"0 1'8".
The catalogue description notes that the design is apparently a tribute to the excellence of the owner of the monument in the game indicated. The similarity to the playing instruments of Flemish colf, is remarkable. Could the Irish have pioneered early golf in the British Isles?

'... is een 15e eeuwse grafsteen uit Clonca, Inishowen, Co. Donegal. De overledene was een Schotse huursoldaat die uit Iona afkomstig was. Op de steen zijn niet alleen zijn typisch Schotse zwaard afgebeeld, maar ook een camán en bal. De camán doet sterk denken aan het huidige type dat bij camanachd/shinty wordt gebruikt.'
