In the book 'Le Noble Jeu de Mail de la ville de Montpellier. Avec ses Réglements' (1772) J. Sudre not only described the rules of the game, but he gave also some instructions about how to play the mail game, clarified by means of several drawings. The content of the book was agreed upon by the organisation of 'palemardiers', a kind of union of mail professionals.
